Summer

Unquestionably the #1 favorite activity is kicking back, taking deep breaths of fresh air and feeling your senses responding to the peaceful tranquility of the Adirondack Mountains.

You may want to listen to the loons with your coffee on the dock in the morning or reflect from the sprawling front porch with a commanding view of the Fourth Lake and the mountains beyond.

Join us for cocktails at sundown...The Woods Inn has the prime location for watching the sun set into the mountains (if you're thinking romance)!

You may spend a lazy day wandering down the driveway into town for a mountain breakfast, browsing the charming shops for quilting fabrics, antiques, books, maps, Adirondack furnishings and gifts, homemade fudge and outdoor sporting equipment.

The Woods Inn is next door to the Inlet Park with tennis courts, playground equipment and a beach. The Inn sits at the mouth of Fourth Lake, the largest of the Fulton Chain of lakes. Fourth Lake is a haven to water enthusiasts. You may bring your own boat to our dock or we can arrange rentals for you. Fishing guides can be arranged as well. There are all levels of hiking trails that offer miles of memorable vistas...you can take a casual walk or serious hikers can climb one of the mountains.

Canoeists, kayakers and boaters will appreciate Fourth lake as well as the many other waterways nearby. A very popular trip for paddlers is the Historic Adirondack Passage. This trip begins on the Fulton Chain of Lakes and continues north to Saranac Lake through a series of lakes rivers and carries. Inlet is also host to the Adirondack Paddlefest which takes place in May and is now the nation's largest expo on water canoes and kayaks. This event is held on Fourth Lake, in front of The Woods Inn.

The Enchanted Forest and Water Safari, 10 miles away in Old Forge, will be a favorite memory for all ages. This amusement and water park features a daily circus, full game arcades, stock-car course and wave pool, all at a gate price that will surprise you. The size of the park cannot be judged from the road...it is a full day or two for those who are "amusement park savvy!"

If your interests are in history and lore, you may want to ride the Adirondack Scenic Railroad, visit historical Camp Sagamore, shop the local antique stores and enjoy a sunset dinner cruise.

The Adirondack Museum is 20 minutes away and the Old Forge Art Center always has an exhibit that will be worth your time.

Golf

The Inlet Golf Club, a semiprivate course, is beautifully laid out on rolling hills with unusual challenges. The course at Thendara, about 12 miles from the Woods Inn, will challenge even the experienced golfer. Both courses are well known to the Upstate New York golfer.

Winter

The area offers over 250 miles of connecting snowmobile and cross-country ski trails. You can start off in the morning and have lunch, tea, cocktails and dinner all on trails, returning to The Woods Inn for the night. The snowmobile trail crosses the end of our driveway and there is an entrance to Fourth Lake. Skiers and snowmobilers have separate trails, all pristine, well-maintained and very well marked. Downhill skiing is available nearby. Ice fishing is a local favorite for the hearty.

Somehow, there is never enough time for all that you want to do, especially if you take the time to relax and unwind. For over a century, travelers have returned every year to explore paths they did not get to and revisit all their favorites. Some families are on their fourth generation of Adirondack vacationers.
